So a wonderful girl I work with who makes the most amazing upholstery and pillows told me the other day she was going to break down and hire someone to do her daughter's room. Being that she herself has an amazing eye, I was shocked. She did just have her 3rd child and moved her home and her office all at once and she just wanted her daughter's room off of her plate. Her daughter is at that crucial age where she is no longer a little girl and getting ready to become a full fledged teenager. I told her I would be more than happy to help her and her tween and we could get started ASAP!
My girlfriend told me her daughter wanted BRIGHT colors and was leaning towards a more 'pop' look. However, this is not her mothers style at all. Her mom has a much more clean, industrial, flea market vibe through the rest of her house and it is GORGEOUS! Picture, white gray, raw wood, metal and Calcutta everywhere. So how was I going to entwine the two? WHITE. See my beautiful inspiration picture below.

I will keep her whole room and bedding a crisp, clean white and let the pillows and art be the 'POP' factor. That way if she decides she ants to follow in her mother's footsteps in a few years, it will only take a few minor changes. Now I had to decide where to start with the pillow fabrics. What would appeal to a tween that was full of bright colors, but also appeal to a sophisticated adult?
The lead pattern? Schumachers Chiang Mai Dragon in Aquamarine of course!
Paired with Kelly Wearstler for Schumacher Imperial Trellis in Citrine and Ivory
Celerie Kemble for Schumacher Betwixt in Water and Ivory
Also, Kelly Wearstler for Schumacher Modern Moire in a punchy Tangerine (but it does not show well in pictures) for a twist on traditional.
She already had this wonderful little capiz shell chandelier in the window seat above her built-in desk.
Then for a fun piece of art that will last 'for like ever.'
There was also an old bamboo mirror that she didn't care about keeping but with a few coats of turquoise lacquer, I am sure it will be a show stopper!
I will post pics as I go, so keep an eye out for them!
