Design on a Dime

I know that we all can get sucked into HGTV design shows.  However, most of the time all I think about is that the budget is not really the budget due to the FREE labor.  You can do a lot for $1000 when you have a skilled craftsman working the power saw for you for free!  So you can imagine my shock when I saw this article that was linked from I SUWANNEE to the LA Times featuring Kristan Cunningham of HGTV's Design on a Dime.  She is currently living in a rental and needed to fix it up to her taste without investing a lot in it.  Something that we can all relate to. I was shocked to see the gorgeous creation that she calls home and the TINY budget that was used.  Read more here.

I adore the colors of the cabinets.

A pile of wood...my new favorite accessory.

I have a smaller version of this West Elm rug in my kitchen and I just love it.

The lamp on the Master Bath counter felt so lavish to me!  I cannot believe I had not thought of it before!

Only SHE could.

Only Kelly Wearstler could match her outfit to the interiors that she is being photographed in and come off stylish. Anyone else would fail miserably.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow...

Although I tend to be more of a neutrals girl myself, I am always impressed by people who are able to commit to a bold color and pull it off.

A Wonderful Wedding = A Tired Girl

Picture via Apartment #34

I am still exhausted from the wedding I had this weekend.  I have to remember that that much dancing does have its consequences!  I think I will be passing out on the floor when I get home from work today.

Furniture Friday 6.5.09

I knew from the moment I saw the Saarinen table that I wanted one.  It was so clean and modern and yet perfectly classic.  Once I purchased my first home with my husband, I immediately told him what table we would be getting.  He was not as thrilled as I had expected him to be when I showed it to him.  Sadly, I could not afford the one I desired with the gorgeous Calcutta marble on top.  However, I did manage to find a lovely look-a-like that I think works for both of us.  The Ikea knock-off had the look I wanted and the price that my husband could swallow.  One day though I will get that beautiful table, but for now, pictures will do!

It looks so elegant in this very traditional room.

I still want this poster.

Windsor is a Winner

It does not seem to matter what Windsor Smith does, but she always does it well.

I actually had the opportunity to hear Windsor Smith speak not too long ago and she explained how her line with Kravet came about. Apparently, she was in Kravet at the PDC trying to do a custom rug for a client and one of the owners 'happened' to be at the showroom and loved her design. Kravet offered her the opportunity to try out a brand new rug manufacturer for a great discount and she loved it and they loved her and next thing you know, BAM, she has her own line. Some people just have all of the luck! No matter how it happened though, Windsor Smith definitely knows what she is doing!
